Connect Pinterest

Pinterest Business OAuth flow and what is required to publish Pins through Unison.

Updated May 12, 2026·1 min read

Pinterest publishing requires a Business account. Personal Pinterest accounts cannot publish via the API. Converting from Personal to Business is free and reversible.

  1. 1

On pinterest.com open Settings → Account management → Account changes and switch to a Business account if you are not on one.

  2. 2

In Unison, open Settings → Channels and click Add channel, then pick Pinterest. You will be redirected to pinterest.com to authorise.

  3. 3

Sign in with the Business account and approve the requested scopes: boards:read, pins:read, pins:write, user_accounts:read.

  4. 4

Land back inside Unison. The new channel appears with a green dot if Unison can reach the API.

What you can publish

  • Image Pins (single image with title, description, link)
  • Video Pins
  • Idea Pins (multi-page, with optional music)
  • Pin to a specific board, with optional section
  • Destination link with UTM parameters baked in by Unison

Removing access

Disconnect inside Unison to delete the OAuth token from our database. To revoke from Pinterest, open Settings → Apps and remove Unison.

Common errors

  • account_type_invalid means you signed in with a Personal account. Switch to Business and try again.
  • board_not_found means the board ID stored on a draft no longer exists (perhaps it was deleted on Pinterest). Edit the draft and pick a new board.
